How come the 2nd breakup is so much easier?

We broke up after a year of dating and I felt so much pain and I was so heartbroken it was almost unbearable. We got back together and 3 months later he dumped me for a stupid reason. How come I’m not heartbroken like the first breakup?

The first time, it put your body in shock, you didn’t know what to expect. The second time, you knew what to expect and you are probably getting tired of the "stupid reasons". You are starting to loose feelings for him and getting ready to move on.

Your not heartbroken because your feeling are not as strong as they were before. Once someone hurts you, The first cut is usually the deepest. After that, one tends to become indifferent.
You were mentally prepared to protect your feelings If it should happen again.
Because…… the grass is never greener the second time around. (to paraphrase a common saying) Why do you think that second marriages don’t work? – because the first one did not work. The same with exes coming back. You know all his/her shortcomings in advance.

Your heart was more guarded with him the second time around….and you saw him more for who he is instead of who you wanted him to be.
Because unknowingly you built up a wall for "just in case" reasons. I think after it doesn’t work out the first time, you’re less prone to get your hopes up for a second time.
