Night of My Despair
Though all be dark, I sit and wait,
Echoes of words spewing hate,
Night now calm, there is no debate,
Reclining, tranquil, brief escape,
The dark where passion once arose.
Thunder rumbles in distant sky
Hints of my stormy house this night,
All quiet now to my delight
Has she gone, or is she nearby?
She sleeps, eyes and heart to me closed.
Cold reigns this night of my despair,
Dread grows as comes the dawning flare,
Day brings to me contempt laid bare,
Words that lovers should never share,
Scornful dreams not fair to disclose.
The dark offers to me respect
Which from my love I can’t expect.
Hid in dark, my life to inspect,
Find what bought esteem’s reject,
Despising the partner she chose
I am honored where none speaks,
Nor sound of love or hate leaks,
Place where no critic’s eye peeks,
Not but chill to kiss my cheeks,
Cheer the cold dark, My heart’s repose.
